Product Description
This is the sixth solo studio album from the legendary musician and follows 2007’s highly successful Kill To Get Crimson, which Rolling Stone heralded as ‘a gem’ and USA Today described as, ‘…yet another unpretentious showcase for his unmistakable gifts as a musician, tunesmith and storyteller.’
Recorded at Knopfler’s award-winning British Grove Studios in West London, Get Lucky was co-produced with longtime collaborators, engineer Chuck Ainlay and keyboardist Guy Fletcher and featured Richard Bennett, Danny Cummings, John McCusker, Matt Rollings and Glenn Worf. The 11-track album explores a lifetime of musical roots exemplified by the title track. ‘The first itinerant person I ever met would sing in soul bands in winter, then work part-time in fairgrounds or ‘go pick fruit down south’ when the weather turned warm,’ explains Knopfler. ‘I was about 15 years old, stuck in school and envious. ‘Get Lucky’ came from him and other traveling characters I went on to meet in places I’d find myself working short-term, like farms, warehouses, building sites, before I got lucky with my songs.’
Get Lucky Mark Knopfler Review
Mark has produced another exquisite album full of songs about his life. From the first track to the last, his voice will captivate you while the guitar makes your head swing in delight. There are times I just have to stop working and close my eyes and flow with the music. Buy the CD and ignore the world for a few hours and you will get lucky.
I own virtually every piece of work this man has done clear back to Dire Straits. I’ve been blessed to see him twice in concert at a local winery, sitting out in the grass, sipping wine, making friends sitting in the immediate area and seeing firsthand the absolute genius Knopfler is blessed with. Get lucky did not let me down. I am thrilled that there’s a bit of the “known” Knopfler and a bit of his “roots” in this work. A man who knows who he is, likes what he does and draws you in with every note and word whether it be traditional Knopfler or Knopfler ready to embrace his heritage. I love it! Buy it! A true “Piper To The End”…..thumbs up for the sentiment and the song……beautifully done.
I am one of the few to experience this brilliant music prior to most. His music really gives me the chills. It seems a bit like every song has a bit of an Irish tune in it and probably that makes it brilliant. It recently appeared to me that every great musician moves to a mellow tune as they grow old. it’s like from standing and moving with the tune to sitting on a couch and sipping on brandy kind.
I love this new album by Mark Knopfler. It is filled with many moods and sounds. He is such a good musician and singer. I love the bluesy sound of “You Can’t Beat The House”. Mark shows off his talent playing the electric guitar on this song. This is the kind of song that makes me feel like I am in a bar drinking and having fun. I love the song “Get Lucky”. This song is about a person trying to make a living. This song has a light pleasant quality to it. I love the sentimental tone of Before Gas and TV. I love the joyous Celtic sound of “Border Revier”. “Piper To The End” is a song that questions life after death. This is a beautiful song. “Cleaning My Gun” is a song about a solitary activity gives a person peace in a crazy world. “So Far From The Clyde” is a song about a ship. This song makes feel me feel peaceful but sad too. I love this new album.
